During my counseling courses at Bastyr University I often wondered how I was going to guide my patients into health, and not merely properly diagnose them according to the DSM-V. As a future naturopath I want to inspire hope, not motivate through fear; while I was learning a whole lot about diagnosing, I lacked the tools on how to take a diagnosis into healthy life changes. Lea's presentation contained six power point slides. A big change from the normal 40-60 slides that some of our professors would present in their one hour lectures. I found that in the months since Lea's presentation I have turned these 6 slides into one of my favorite references in discussing models of change in the academic setting and as a blueprint for discussions with patients on reframing perceptions of their environment. Her presentation was concise and poignant. I only wish that I we could have twice as much time with her!
